Aim.
After my success of my first shoot of depression, I wanted to produce another series of images with the atmosphere/ mood of isolation/ sadness. I done this by getting a new subject into the studio this time and shot images for her in various poses to create this connotation. Even though the denotation of some photos are just- a girl laying on the floor- this can create the connotation of her feeling isolated with herself and not sure what she should do- so she just lays there. Before I went out to shoot this, I had a list on my notes (on my phone) with ideas which I wanted to do. Some turned out unrealistic, but other I believe worked really well. Having this list was very useful because I meant I could set out the studio in the order I needed.
This is a photo from this shoot which I like:
I like this image because I really like how I managed to capture the emotion in both a connotation and a denotation. The connotation is a subject not showing her face because she is because suffocated by the thought of being alone. Yet the denotation of this is just a girl covering her face with the word "Alone" on it.
This is a photo from the shoot which I don't like:
I don't like this photo because in the reflection of the mirror, you can see the other background drops for the studio. Also I don't like how the shadowing blocks her face making it quite difficult to make out her facial emotions. This shields any mood to conveyed from this image- this is why I do not like it. Additionally, my subject was close to coming off the white drop, which is why you can see creases at the bottom of the image. You can also see another prop on the right hand side- which I do not like because it would look better if was all white around her.
Progression:
Next time I shoot, I will vary my shoots from the studio to a natural background because some of my image (in my opinion) would work better if nature was set behind them- not just white. Also, if I was to use the work reflection, I would make sure I were to check what was in the reflection.

use your work diary if you are only posting one good image as a reference point to the range of work created within the straight images, e.g. black and white, composition, double exposure, image within image, etc.
