Photographer Research Christian Sampson

Christian Sampson
Christian Sampson normally takes portraits and wedding photos (for her job) yet she wanted to create a series of photographs to show her artistic side as well through digital manipulation. To some this set of images could be a be "jumbled" or just plain "messy", yet I really like them because I believe they are very thought provoking and hold connotation of different moods/ atmospheres.
This image is really interesting because you see the subject in the centre and around her it smudges out. The use of colour here is really important because it makes there smudge more dominate. Also the smudges are blurry they are almost the almost stretched at parts- as if somehow she is floating away. This creates a connotation because it suggests this subject, even though is smiling, she is mentally disappearing, perhaps this is because she feels ignored and isolated.

When I first looked at this photo, I thought it was of a subject with a blur/ fun house mirror around him, yet when I looked deeper into the surroundings, I notices it was in fact the subject, broken up in to smaller pieces. This creates a powerful connotation because it suggests the subject doesn't quite know where he is at, he feels like he is being destroyed by people. Also the black veins just he holds a darkness in himself- perhaps depression which is a really interesting way of displaying this mental illness.

This composite image is really beautiful to look at. The way this photographer has merged these two images of a subject and wings is really pretty. This holds the connotation of serenity but at the same time mental death. As this subject is dropping her body suggests she has given up
This final image links with mood and atmosphere because it appears this subject feels as if time is against her. For example, she has lots of work to do but so little time she just feels so anxious and rushed. The manipulation used here would have been to produce a composite image, it is unclear the actual method of this image, however I would say she took a photo of a clock at different angles and pasted therm into this scene, I would say this because the clocks are all identical just different angles.
